Banuka, Ruzni, Huzni, Rifkaan and Shaheed were five students fortunate enough to be selected for the Vocational Training programme. The vocational training programme organized under the aegis of John Keells Foundation is an opportunity available for those students who do not pass their O/ Levels enabling them to gain valuable training on overall hotel operations. The Foundation conducts an annual Career Guidance Programme open to students of all six schools who have completed their Ordinary Level Examination. The programme comprises of workshops on personal effectiveness and basic career guidance followed by business specific presentations including career opportunities and entry level requirements in the Hospitality Sector of the Group.
These five trainees successfully completed their six-month training at Cinnamon red Colombo and Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo. Out of the five trainees, Banuka Dananjaya was absorbed into Cinnamon red and is currently employed as a chef while the other four are currently employed within the private sector. The trainees were awarded certificates of completion at a simple ceremony followed by an informal chat with Terrence Fernando, Project Champion, Neighborhood Schools Development Project and Carmeline Jayasuriya, Head of Operations, CSR where they discussed their career ambitions and plans for their future
