John Keells Foundation in collaboration with Ceylon Cold Stores has agreed to partner the Ministry of Health in providing eye care services under the School Screening programme of the Urban Eye Care Project. As a first step towards achieving this goal, approx 3,600 spectacles have been pledged by John Keells Foundation and Ceylon Cold Stores to be given to school children in the Colombo District who have been identified with low vision or refractive errors. Since project launch on 28th September 2015, more than 65 schools were screened and 2593 spectacles distributed to children in the Colombo District as at end February 2016. The initiative has drawn a tremendous response from Group volunteers amounting to more than 200 volunteers in the last 5 months.
