Following the inclement weather conditions in December 2014, the North Central and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka experienced severe floods. The John Keells Foundation partnered with the Capital Maharaja Organization's Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra Programme to provide flood relief items to the victims of the floods.
The "Sirasa Shakthi John Keells Sahana Yathra" was formed, and staff volunteers from the John Keells Group and Capital Maharaja Organization, packed relief-aid items in Colombo and distributed same to displaced persons in Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Puttlam, Anuradhapura and Trincomalee during the period of December 27th – 29th 2014.
Volunteers from various Business Units across the Group assembled at the Head Office of Capital Maharaja Organization on Braybrooke Place, Colombo 02, on 27th December, to put together over 7100 packs of dry rations and essential items and packaging went late into the night.
The immediate distribution of supplies made by John Keells Foundation would not have been made possible if not for the help of the volunteers from Union Assurance, Jay Kay Marketing Services Ltd ("Keells Super"), Chaaya Blu – Trincomalee and Ceylon Cold Stores ("Elephant House").
Phase 1 of the distribution was held on the 27th- 29th of December 2014.
